Belenos
This original painting features the Celtic Sun God, Belenos.
In the Temple of Aquae Sulis in Bath, England, this face looms over one portico looking down on the temple precincts below. Since the Romans combined quailites of their gods with local dieties, this Gorgon-like face also carries with it symbols of the local Celtic diety, Belenos.
For me this piece speaks of the power and wisdom of our elders. Even grey bearded, the forcefulness and understanding in this face leap forth. Full of solar energy, fearlessness, and hope, this face represents two cultures coming together with art and spirituality as one of the results.
This piece is acrylic on canvas and measures approx. 16"x20".
